The lovastatin or advicor is known as an oral drug and the main function of the drug is lower the cholesterol levels. For this purpose, the manufacturing companies are using the combination of extended release niacin and lovastatin. This drug is capable to reduce the blood levels of total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein or LDL and triglycerides. The lovastatin can increase the blood levels of high density lipoprotein or HDL Cholesterol.

The patient should use this medicine with appropriate diet and it will reduce the risk of heart attack and other chest pains caused by angina for certain patients. The lovastatin is used to treat the slow blood vessel blockage and it is having the ability to reduce the need for medical procedures for open blocked heart blood vessels.
